DayZ is an zombie survival style Arma II mod. More than any other game, DayZ stays true to the zombie survival genre by requiring you to consider things that are normally considered trivial, and are overlooked by other games.
For example, in DayZ, you will be required to find food and water to stay alive. If you don't boil your water, you run a chance of getting sick. If you get sick, you need to find medicine. But you can't boil your water without a fire, and you need the proper equipment to start a fire. You also need bandages, because when you take damage, you have a chance of bleeding out.
On top of this, you have zombies wandering around, trying to eat your brains. Worst of all are the other players. A real zombie apocalype would breads evil people, and a lot of mistrust. It is much the same in DayZ. The crossing of two skilled players is a very big event, and sometimes equates to a lot of stalking, waiting for the right moment to strike. Because once you die, all the equipment you've collected is gone.
All of these true to life details make DayZ more of a zombie simulator than a game. It's slow paced, and hard to learn, but once you master it, DayZ will provide you with an experience unlike any other game out there... though it may take you too hours to make it worth while.
I still can't decide if this game is genius, or just a grand waste of time.
