Walter Mitty is feel good comedy-drama directed, produced and starring Ben Stiller. When I hear "Ben Stiller", my mind imagines a specific, silly breed of comedy. I think Tropic Thunder, The Fockers or Zoolander, which are fine movies, but they all seems to meld together over time, much like every Adam Sandler movie ever made does. Walter Mitty however, stands out from the sea of Stiller comedies and a legitimate feel good comedy.

As the plot goes, Walter Mitty is a relatively ordinary guy who has a crush (Kristen Wiig) he can't comfort, and spends lots of his time daydreaming. Like many people, Walter is trapped by his unwillingness to risk an adventure, so he lives them out in vivid daydreams. In this way, Walter is a relatable character, albeit an extreme version of ourselves. However, his wild daydreams are self affirming, and they never felt over the top ridiculous, just charmingly quarky.

As everything is Walter's life inevitably goes wrong, he is given the opportunity to go on a real life adventure. He capitalizes and begins his journey on a series of adventures that rival his wildest daydreams. The overall story of self discovery and finding love are far from original, but this movies delivers in a unique way that is very satisfying to watch. I never stopped to complain about the unoriginally, because I was too caught up in Walter's experience.

Throughout the movie, Walter has quarky encounters with the people he meets. One of them, played by Patton Oswalt, is a representitive from eHarmony. Patton's character sporadicallly calls him, trying to personally help him find love. They ultimatley met up and have a strangely mundane relationship that is somehow wholesome, and makes you smile.

All in all, Walter Mitty is a great mix of comedy, self discovery, romance and general feel good vibes. I recommend you give it a watch... Oh ya, and Adam Scott is in it. Adam Scott plays an unlikeable douche... badly : ) 4 out of 5!
